This page explains how users of the Family Kharcha mobile app can request deletion of their account and associated personal data.
Option 1 — Delete in the App (Recommended)
If you can still sign in to Family Kharcha, you can delete your account immediately:
- Open the Family Kharcha app on your device.
- Go to Settings (gear icon).
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.
- Confirm the warning — this action is permanent and cannot be undone.
Your account is deleted as soon as you confirm. You will be signed out on all devices.
Option 2 — Request Deletion by Email
If you uninstalled the app, lost access to your device, or cannot sign in, email us and we will process your request:
- Send an email to hello@familykharcha.com with the subject line "Account Deletion Request".
- Include the email address or phone number registered to your Family Kharcha account.
- We will verify your identity and confirm once deletion is complete, usually within 7 business days.
What Gets Deleted
When your account is deleted, we remove or anonymise the following:
- Your profile information (name, email, phone, password, avatar, date of birth, gender).
- Your device tokens and push notification records.
- Your personal wallet and all data inside it (expenses, budgets, allocations, categories, receipts).
- Any family groups where you are the admin — including all shared data for every member of those groups.
- Your membership in family groups where you are only a member (you are removed from the group).
What May Be Kept
- Historical records in member-only families: If you were a member (not admin) of a family group, expense entries you created may remain as anonymised records labelled "Deleted User" so other members can keep accurate shared history.
- Legal or regulatory records: We may retain minimal information where required by law (for example, billing or fraud-prevention records).
- Backups: Residual copies in encrypted backups are purged on our normal backup rotation schedule, within 30 days.
Data Retention Period
We delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days of your deletion request, except where we are legally required to retain specific records. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Subscriptions
Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an active App Store or Google Play subscription. Cancel your subscription separately before or after deleting your account:
- Android: Google Play → Account → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Family Kharcha → Cancel.
- iOS: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Family Kharcha → Cancel.
